"Your reforms are wicked” — Atiku blames Tinubu for Uber’s exit from Nigeria

Image
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has characterized President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms as destructive to local employment and private sector sustainability.   Atiku's remarks followed the official departure of ride-hailing company Uber from the Nigerian market after 12 years of operation, effective September 2, 2026. While Uber attributed its exit to an internal review of corporate investment priorities across Africa, Atiku maintained that deteriorating macroeconomic conditions and eroding consumer purchasing power drove the decision.     Speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku stated that the economic environment rendered operations unsustainable for both drivers and passengers.   “Dear @officialABAT, Uber did not leave because Nigerians stopped needing rides. STATEHOUSE PRESS STATEMENT WHEN WILL ATIKU ABUBAKAR REPORT HIMSELF TO PRESIDENT TRUMP? Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s relentless desire to become President of Nigeria has regrettably closed his eyes to the virtues of statesmanship, decorum, and propriety expected of an elder statesman. In his latest act, Atiku Abubakar’s lobbying group in the US has submitted petitions to President Trump and the US State Department regarding a civil forfeiture case from 1993—a matter long settled, with no criminal conviction or finding of guilt. This issue was resolved over 30 years ago in the United ...

Warning To All Nigeria Governors By President Tinubu

Image
President Bola Tinubu has reminded state governors and Houses of Assembly across the country of the constitutional provision empowering the federal government to declare a state of emergency where public order and safety are under threat. This was contained in the state house address where Rivers State Emergency Rule was lifted today. He stated: "But what needs to be said is that the power to declare a state of emergency is an inbuilt constitutional tool to address situations of actual or threatened breakdown of public order and public safety, which require extraordinary measures to return the State to peace, order and security. Considered objectively, we had reached that situation of total breakdown of public order and public safety in Rivers State, as shown in the judgment of the Supreme Court on the disputes between the Executive and the Legislative arm of Rivers State. It would have been a colossal failure on my part as President not to have made that proclamation....
