INEC PRESENTS CERTIFICATES OF RETURN TO SOLUDO, DEPUTY

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday formally confirmed the re-election of Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, and his deputy, Onyekachukwu Ibezim, by presenting them with their certificates of return.

The presentation, held in Awka, was conducted by Kenneth Ikeagu, INEC’s Supervising National Commissioner for Anambra State, two days after the pair were declared winners of the November 8 governorship election.

Ikeagu noted that the issuance of the certificates was in line with Section 72(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, which mandates INEC to issue certificates of return within 14 days to candidates duly declared elected.
“In compliance with this provision, it is my honour to present the certificates of return to the Governor and Deputy Governor-elect, who emerged victorious in the election,” he said.

Soludo, candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), secured 422,664 votes to defeat his closest rival, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 99,445 votes, while Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) came third with 37,753 votes.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Edoba Omoregie, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, announced that Soludo won all 21 local government areas of the state.

INEC stated that 16 political parties participated in the election, with 2,788,864 registered voters, 598,229 accredited, and 595,298 total votes cast, while 11,244 votes were rejected.
Governor Soludo and his deputy, accompanied by their wives, received their certificates at the INEC headquarters amid applause from supporters and party members.
