JUST IN: CBN HOLDS INTEREST RATE AT 27%

The Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has voted to retain the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) at 27 percent, leaving the benchmark interest rate unchanged.

CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso announced the decision during a press briefing at the Committee’s 303rd meeting in Abuja.

According to Cardoso, “The Committee decided by a majority vote to maintain the monetary policy stance,” indicating that members believe current economic conditions do not support an additional rate cut.

The decision follows the 50-basis-point reduction implemented in September 2025, the only rate cut since the current CBN leadership began its monetary tightening cycle. It also marks the fourth consecutive hold this year.

The MPR remains the baseline rate that shapes all other interest rates across the economy.
