KEBBI STATE FORMALLY HANDS OVER RESCUED SCHOOLGIRLS TO FIRST LADY

Twenty-four students of Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, who were rescued following last week’s abduction, were on Wednesday formally handed over to the Kebbi State First Lady, Hajiya Zainab Nasare Idris.

The handover ceremony, held in Birnin Kebbi, was conducted by the Commissioner for Education, Halima Bande, who confirmed that all the students were in stable condition. She added that none of the girls was harmed while in captivity and credited Governor Nasir Idris for his unwavering involvement in securing their release.

“Since the incident, the governor has been restless. He remained fully engaged and coordinated every step taken. We are grateful for his commitment,” she said.

Representing the parents, Malam Illiyasu Garba expressed appreciation to the governor, security agencies, religious leaders and community volunteers for their support, noting that the families were relieved to have their children back safely.

The District Head of Maga, Muhammad Sani Dantani, also commended the governor for treating the matter as a personal responsibility, which, he said, contributed to the swift rescue of the students.

In her remarks, the First Lady said the entire state had been anxious since the abduction and described the girls’ safe return as a major relief. She assured that stronger security measures would be introduced to safeguard schools and prevent future occurrences.
She also thanked the military and all stakeholders involved in the rescue, describing the operation as a blessing for the state.
