Makinde’s China Trip: Time to Replicate Same Energy Within MDAs

A call for inward administrative inspection to strengthen Oyo State’s governance architecture
By Moyosoreoluwa Olamilekan Eldreez (MOE)

Leadership thrives not only on vision but also on presence — the kind that listens, observes, and acts decisively. As Governor Seyi Makinde arrived home on his working visit to China, aimed at attracting investors, secure security air waves architecture and deepening Oyo State’s economic partnerships, it is commendable to see a governor who constantly seeks opportunities from international communities to reposition the state for greatness.
In his words: In my newsletter, I shared an update on my recent visit to China to inspect the surveillance aircrafts purchased by our administration to support our existing security architecture, Gov Seyi Makinde FNSE Dsc GSSRS

However, beyond external engagements and foreign missions lies another important frontier — the home front. The Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of Oyo State are the operational heartbeat of the government. They translate policies into practice and ensure that the Governor’s vision is executed down to the grassroots. It is for this reason that Moyosoreoluwa Olamilekan Eldreez (MOE), urged your Excellency to replicate his working visit approach within the state’s bureaucratic structure.

Just as the Governor has gone abroad to seek growth opportunities, it is equally crucial to visit the MDAs, to know their state, challenges, and what needs to be done to create a conducive environment for both the workers and the public they serve. Many of these offices operate under less-than-ideal conditions, with aging infrastructure, outdated tools, and an overstretched workforce still striving to deliver on the Omituntun vision.

A first-hand visit by the Governor will not only expose the realities but also inspire a renewed sense of accountability and motivation among civil servants. When workers see their Governor walking through their corridors, asking questions, and showing concern about their work environment, morale is lifted, and productivity naturally follows.

Such visits would also help in identifying infrastructural gaps and management lapses that may not be visible through official reports. It is often in these quiet corners of governance that big changes begin.

Governor Makinde’s leadership model has always been people-centric, and extending his engagement to the MDAs would further strengthen that legacy. By interacting directly with directors, permanent secretaries, staff and honorable Commissioners he can better align the government’s administrative machinery with his broader developmental goals.

Indeed, while the world applauds Oyo State’s outward drive for investment and innovation, the internal strengthening of its civil service system remains key to sustaining progress. A well-motivated and properly equipped workforce is the bridge between vision and actual delivery.

Governor Makinde’s working visit to China is proof of his commitment to growth. Now, it’s time to bring that same energy home — to the ministries, the departments, and the agencies that power his administration daily. Leadership is not only about looking outward; it is also about looking inward to ensure that every cog in the machine runs smoothly.

If this is done, Oyo State will not only continue to attract investors from abroad but will also build a solid internal system capable of sustaining the transformation we all desire.

Example of Ministries to visit: Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Lands Housing and Urban Development, Finance, Budget and economic planning, Youth and Sports, Education Science and Technology, Women Affairs and Social Inclusion etc
