Kogi Govt Warns Citizens: “Do Not Go to Vulnerable Places” Despite Promise of Security After Latest Abduction

Following a recent attack and abduction of worshippers in Ejiba community, Yagba West LGA, the government of Kogi State has issued a stern public warning to residents to avoid “vulnerable places,” even as authorities promise heightened security presence across the state.

According to the state’s Information Commissioner, citizens and residents are urged to remain vigilant and exercise caution when choosing venues for worship or gatherings, especially in crime-prone or remote areas. The directive comes after armed men stormed a church service, abducting the pastor, his wife, and other congregants — a fresh reminder of Nigeria’s escalating security threats.

While the government says security agencies have intensified patrols, surveillance and intelligence-gathering operations, it cautioned that residents themselves must remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and report any suspicious movements or strangers to authorities. “If you see something, say something,” the state media office emphasized.

This announcement comes amid a broader national security emergency declared by the federal government, as insecurity including kidnappings and bandit attacks continues to afflict several states across Nigeria.

As Kogi reels from the recent abduction, local communities are advising extra caution, and many churches and public gathering spots are reconsidering services and events until security situations improve.
