If We Spend Everything on Salaries, There'll be Nothing Left to Develop FCT — Minister Nyesom Wike

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has said that government cannot spend all available revenue on salaries and allowances and still meet its development responsibilities.

According to him, “nobody can just bring out the whole money and pay allowances & wages,” asking rhetorically how the government would “buy vehicles, construct roads & run schools” if all funds were exhausted on recurrent spending.

Wike explained that access to funds was previously difficult, with projects delayed by lengthy approval processes, noting that criticism of past ministers often ignored these constraints.

He disclosed that the FCT’s Internally Generated Revenue has grown from about ₦9 billion monthly to “nothing less than ₦30 billion every month,” describing the increase as “performance.”

He added that from the current revenue, about ₦2 billion is spent on salaries while over ₦12 billion is committed to infrastructure development. The minister urged collective responsibility, stressing that “the future of this country is on all of us”
