Reports Emerge as Wike’s Son Allegedly Prepares to Contest Obio-Akpor Reps Seat

Port Harcourt — There are growing reports that a son of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is being positioned to contest for the Obio-Akpor Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the next general election.
Sources familiar with the development say consultations are currently ongoing, with the former Rivers State governor reportedly introducing his son to political associates, friends, and key stakeholders within the constituency.
According to party insiders, Wike’s son, said to be 25 years old, is being prepared to step into the race to replace the current occupant of the seat, Rt. Hon. Kingsley Chinda, who represents Obio-Akpor in the National Assembly.
While no official declaration has been made by the family or the party, the reports have sparked conversations across Rivers State’s political space, particularly among grassroots supporters and political observers.
The development has also generated mixed reactions, with some party loyalists welcoming the move, while others are raising questions about political succession, internal democracy, and access to leadership opportunities for ordinary party members.
Several residents and political watchers have asked how long-serving supporters and loyalists, often seen chanting slogans in support of political leaders, can realistically aspire to such positions themselves within the existing political structure.
As of the time of filing this report, no formal confirmation or denial has been issued by the FCT Minister or his camp regarding the alleged ambition.
Observers note that if confirmed, the move would further intensify discussions around political influence, dynasty politics, and representation in Rivers State, especially as preparations for future elections gradually take shape.
