WATCH: “I Am Comfortable in the PDP” — Gov Makinde Speaks After Meeting Tinubu in Abuja, Backs Bipartisan Approach on National Issues
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reiterated his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that he remains comfortable in the opposition party despite engaging with leaders across political divides, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Makinde made the clarification after a recent meeting with President Tinubu in Abuja, a development that sparked political discussions and speculation across the country. Addressing the matter, the governor explained that his interaction with the President was guided strictly by national interest and the need for collaborative governance.
“I am comfortable in the PDP,” Makinde stated, stressing that his meeting with the President does not in any way signal a defection or a weakening of his political stance. According to him, Nigeria’s present challenges require leaders to rise above partisan sentiments and work together for the common good.
The governor emphasized that issues such as security, economic stability, infrastructure development, and national unity demand a bipartisan approach, adding that governance should not be reduced to party rivalry when the welfare of citizens is at stake.
Makinde further noted that his administration in Oyo State has always prioritized results and people-centered policies, regardless of political affiliations, and that such pragmatism has contributed to progress in the state.
Political analysts view Makinde’s comments as a reassurance to PDP supporters and a broader call for mature politics, dialogue, and cooperation at the national level, especially at a time when Nigerians expect solutions rather than political posturing.
The governor’s stance reinforces his image as a leader who balances party loyalty with statesmanship, advocating cooperation where necessary while remaining firmly rooted in his political base.
