ADC Floors APC at Key Polling Unit in FCT’s Area Council Elections
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has secured its first polling unit victory in the ongoing Area Council Elections in the Federal Capital Territory, defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The opposition coalition clinched the win at polling unit 076, Sani Abacha Estate, Wuse Zone 4, where Dr. Moses Paul, the party’s candidate for Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), cast his vote.
Out of just 10 ballots recorded at the unit amid low voter turnout, ADC secured seven votes, APC trailed with two, while one vote was declared invalid.
The election witnessed a generally poor turnout across parts of the FCT. Dr. Paul attributed this to movement restrictions earlier announced by the FCT Minister, describing the situation as confusing and discouraging for voters. He alleged that the directive contributed significantly to the low participation.
Paul also raised concerns over alleged intimidation of ADC agents in areas including Takum Shara and parts of Kabusa ward such as Dogongada and Shereti. According to him, some party representatives were reportedly threatened, with warnings of violence aimed at suppressing voters and influencing the outcome in favour of the ruling party.
While commending electoral officials at his polling unit for professionalism and adherence to due process, Paul condemned what he described as ongoing vote buying in parts of the capital city, stressing that such practices undermine democracy.
Despite the challenges, the AMAC hopeful expressed confidence in victory, urging residents to resist intimidation and insist on accountable leadership as results continue to emerge.
