DHQ PLACES TROOPS ON NATIONWIDE ALERT AHEAD OF EASTER

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has placed troops on high alert across Nigeria ahead of the Easter celebrations, assuring citizens of enhanced security nationwide.
Speaking during a briefing in Abuja, Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Michael Onoja, said the military had activated precautionary measures to prevent any security breaches during the festive period. He noted that similar strategies were successfully implemented during past celebrations such as Christmas and Eid-el-Fitr.

Onoja stressed that security forces would remain vigilant, as threats often intensify during holidays. He reassured Nigerians that the military would not relax its operations, emphasizing that adequate measures were in place to ensure a peaceful Easter.

He also highlighted ongoing collaboration with the United States, stating that support in intelligence sharing and training is strengthening Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts. While noting that results may not be immediate, he expressed confidence that the impact would become evident in the coming weeks.

The DHQ had earlier confirmed the arrival of about 100 U.S. military personnel in February, deployed to provide technical support and advisory services. Despite this, concerns persist over continued insecurity in parts of the country.
