The Founder and Chief Coordinator of The GSMists, Hon. Lukman Abayomi Olajide, popularly known as Royal Umbrella or "Ore Gomina," has announced his voluntary resignation from the political support group he established, while strongly refuting allegations against his person and defending his record of service to Governor Seyi Makinde and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a lengthy statement released on Sunday, Olajide said his decision came amid what he described as sustained blackmail, character assassination, falsehoods, and attempts to tarnish his reputation. He stressed that The GSMists was founded solely to propagate the achievements of Governor Seyi Makinde, the PDP, and the Omituntun administration across Oyo State.
Addressing members of the group across the state's 33 local government areas and 351 wards, the former State Coordinator maintained that he never held any political appointment under either Omituntun 1.0 or Omituntun 2.0. According to him, members of The GSMists voluntarily contributed funds over the years to finance retreats, election mobilization activities, seminars, and other programmes because of their commitment to Governor Makinde and the PDP.
Olajide also dismissed claims surrounding his personal assets, clarifying that Governor Makinde did not purchase a house for him. He explained that the governor allocated a plot of land to him, which he later sold for about ₦13 million after deductions. He added that the proceeds, combined with financial support from former Postmaster General of the Federation, Dr. Ismail Adewusi, as well as income from his Royal Umbrella business, enabled him to purchase and renovate his residence.
He further disclosed that he was the first person to brand his Mercedes-Benz bus in support of Governor Makinde's 2022 re-election campaign under The GSMists platform. He said that after later informing the governor of his transportation needs, he was directed to receive a fairly used Toyota Sienna, which he affectionately named "Aderopo."
The GSMists founder used the opportunity to acknowledge several prominent political leaders, government officials, traditional figures, and supporters whom he credited for the success of the movement and The GSMists Magazine, describing their encouragement and support as instrumental to the group's growth over the years.
He equally paid glowing tribute to the executives, local government coordinators, ward coordinators, and thousands of members of The GSMists, commending their sacrifices despite what he described as the absence of financial support from state and local government authorities. He expressed confidence that their dedication would eventually be rewarded.
Olajide revealed that during a special meeting of The GSMists held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the Oyo State Gymnastics Hall, Cultural Centre, Ibadan, attended by state executives, local government coordinators, ward representatives, and other leaders, he publicly addressed several sensitive issues affecting the organisation in a bid to prevent misinformation and protect his integrity.
As part of his farewell message, he tendered an unreserved apology to anyone he might have offended while promoting the ideals of The GSMists, saying he was not perfect and sought forgiveness from all concerned.
Announcing his exit, Olajide declared that he was voluntarily resigning his membership from what he described as his "pet project," adding that he would no longer be part of the movement. He, however, appealed to the Director-General of The GSMists, Otunba Seye Famojuro, to ensure the support group remains united and continues to thrive after his departure.
Although he did not disclose his next political destination, Olajide hinted that his journey in politics was far from over, stating that politics remained in his blood and expressing confidence that God would direct his future political path.
"I love you all. One heart, one mission," he concluded, expressing gratitude to members and supporters for their loyalty throughout his years of leadership.
