Fresh Twist: TopTori News Confirms Arapaja's Alleged Defection Plot as More PDP Stakeholders Reportedly Weigh Exit
Security details of former Deputy Governor of Oyo State and National Deputy Chairman (South) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Taofeek Arapaja, have allegedly been withdrawn by the Oyo State Government, a development that has continued to generate reactions within political circles.
The political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections in Oyo State appears to be gathering momentum, with fresh revelations emerging from within Governor Seyi Makinde's political camp. Sources familiar with the unfolding developments claimed that the reported defection plan involving Arapaja may be part of a broader movement by several influential figures within the ruling PDP.
According to insiders who spoke on the reported defection, Arapaja is "not alone" in his alleged decision to leave the PDP. The sources claimed that a number of key politicians within Governor Makinde's political structure are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the management of the party's affairs in the state.
TopTori News also gathered from one of Arapaja's loyalists that the former deputy governor may be on the verge of dumping Governor Makinde's camp for the All Progressives Congress (APC). The loyalist, who spoke on condition of anonymity, was quoted as saying: "Our Oga has met with key stakeholders. Watch out for the final decision soon. Since Makinde is playing godfatherism, he will leave to reject it." TopTori News has not independently verified this claim.
The development comes shortly after reports alleged that Arapaja had concluded arrangements to join the APC following what sources described as high-level consultations with President Bola Tinubu. It was further claimed that the former deputy governor had received logistical and financial backing from the APC ahead of his planned defection.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Taofeek Arapaja nor the Oyo State Government has publicly commented on the allegations. The claims therefore remain unverified, while political observers continue to monitor developments ahead of the 2027 elections.
