GSMists Reaffirm Loyalty to Makinde, Back Bimbo Adekanmbi's Omituntun 3.0 Bid, Demand Fair Recognition

IBADAN, July 25, 2026 – Members of the GSMists, one of Oyo State's prominent political support groups, have reaffirmed their commitment to the ideals of the Omituntun movement while calling for greater recognition of loyal members who have contributed significantly to its political successes over the years.

The position was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the GSMists Special Stakeholders' Meeting held on Saturday at the Oyo State Gym Building, Ori-Oke Mokola, Ibadan. The meeting, themed "The GSMists Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow," brought together the State Executive Council and executive committees from all 33 local government areas of Oyo State.

During the meeting, participants reflected on the evolution of the GSMists, describing the movement as a dependable political structure that played a key role in supporting Governor Seyi Makinde from the early days of the Omituntun project through the successful implementation of Omituntun 1.0 and the consolidation of Omituntun 2.0.

Delegates commended members across the state for their unwavering loyalty, resilience and sacrifices, noting that many had invested their time, resources and political influence in advancing the movement without seeking immediate rewards. However, they expressed concern over what they described as the inadequate recognition of many committed members who have remained steadfast despite their contributions to the administration's political successes.

While reaffirming their confidence in Governor Seyi Makinde's leadership, the stakeholders appealed for deliberate and equitable recognition of faithful GSMists who have remained loyal since the inception of the Omituntun movement.

The meeting also passed a unanimous vote of confidence in the leadership of the GSMists under the State Coordinator, Yinka Tella, and the State Executive Council, applauding the leadership for sustaining unity, discipline and organisational stability despite various challenges.

Looking ahead to the 2027 political landscape, the stakeholders declared their readiness to contribute to the emergence and success of Omituntun 3.0 under the leadership of Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi. However, they insisted that future political mobilisation by the movement should be guided by a clearly negotiated Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that guarantees fairness, inclusiveness and proper recognition of members' sacrifices.

According to the communiqué, such an agreement would strengthen trust within the movement while promoting accountability, transparency and mutual respect between the leadership and thousands of GSMists across Oyo State.

The stakeholders also reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), pledging continued support for the party's growth, internal cohesion and democratic values aimed at delivering sustainable development and people-centred governance in Oyo State.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to peace, unity and progressive leadership, expressing optimism that the resolutions reached would receive due attention from relevant stakeholders in the interest of justice, equity, political inclusion and the continued development of Oyo State.
