Reps Order IG to Produce Fake Agency DG Within 48 Hours

The House of Representatives has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to produce the self-acclaimed Director-General of a controversial agency before the lawmakers on Wednesday.

The directive was handed down on Monday during the resumed investigative hearing of the House Ad-hoc Committee probing the operations of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja. The committee chairman, Yusuf Gagdi, declared that the appearance of Adeniyi Adeyemi had become imperative given the gravity of the allegations and the institutions implicated.

Representing the Inspector-General at the hearing, Assistant Commissioner of Police Bashir Abdullahi was instructed to ensure Adeyemi’s appearance by noon on Wednesday. Gagdi subsequently directed the committee clerk to formally communicate the resolution to the police authorities. “The committee hereby resolves that the Inspector-General of Police of the Federal Republic of Nigeria do kindly present Mr Adeyemi on Wednesday by 12 noon. That is the ruling of the committee,” Gagdi declared.

The committee is investigating how the PFIPC, despite being described by the Presidency as non-existent, allegedly secured office accommodation in Phase III of the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja and received a budgetary allocation of N1.32 billion in the 2026 Appropriation Act. The probe has drawn significant public attention, raising concerns about possible lapses in public financial management and institutional oversight.

Earlier, ACP Abdullahi informed lawmakers that although investigations were ongoing, the police had already filed an eight-count charge against Adeyemi before the Federal High Court. The police confirmed that on October 17, 2025, the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President petitioned security agencies over allegations against Adeyemi, prompting investigations that culminated in criminal charges bordering on conspiracy and fraud.

Investigators confirmed receiving a petition alleging that Adeyemi falsely presented himself as Director-General of both the Presidential Economic Advisory Council and the PFIPC. According to the police, the petition alleged that Adeyemi used the purported office to obtain accommodation within the Federal Secretariat, sought approval to recruit about 300 personnel, attempted to secure a $1.3 billion allocation in the 2026 Appropriation Act, and planned to organise a World Investment Summit under the platform of the purported council.

Abdullahi cautioned against making public disclosures that could prejudice the ongoing investigation or judicial proceedings. “We don’t want to say things that are under investigation. It is definitely going to prejudice the ongoing investigation and make people have opinions that may prejudge the outcome of an investigation or judicial decision,” he stated.

Adeyemi was arrested on July 14 by operatives of the police Intelligence Response Team in Osun State following a bench warrant issued by a Federal High Court in Abuja after he failed to appear for his arraignment on an eight-count charge bordering on conspiracy, forgery and impersonation. Justice Mohammed Umar ordered the arrest after Adeyemi failed to appear when the case was called. The judge subsequently adjourned the case until September 30, 2026, for arraignment.

The investigation has already heard testimonies from several top government officials, including the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the Director of Banking Services at the Central Bank of Nigeria, and the Director-General of the Budget Office. The Accountant-General of the Federation is expected to appear on Monday to explain how the PFIPC obtained a government budget code.
