EFCC, INEC Forge Alliance to Curb Vote Buying Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have agreed to strengthen collaboration aimed at ensuring a more credible and transparent electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections . The understanding was reached on Tuesday when the Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Obo Etfanga, paid a courtesy visit to the Benin Zonal Directorate of the EFCC. The REC, who was recently deployed to Edo State, said he sought to engage with critical stakeholders including law enforcement agencies ahead of the 2027 general election, and to explore areas of further collaboration. INEC Confirms Receipt of Membership Registers Of All 22 Parties

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that all 22 registered political parties have submitted their membership registers in compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026. In a statement issued on Friday, the Commission disclosed that the submissions were completed as of 8 May 2026, two days ahead of the extended deadline granted to political parties. INEC explained that the extension followed concerns raised by political parties during a meeting held on 24 March 2026 regarding the timeline outlined in the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election. According to the Commission, the original deadline of 21 April 2026 was subsequently shifted to 10 May 2026 to align with Section 77(4) of the Electoral Act 2026 and the actual dates fixed by political parties for their primaries. The decision was reached on Friday during a meeting between the Commission and Resident Electoral Commissioners, where key electoral matters were reviewed. Voters lament name omission, incoordination at polling unit in Abuja

Some voters at the Durumi II Polling Unit in the Abuja Municipal Area Council have raised concerns over the omission of names from the voter register during the Federal Capital Territory Area Council election on Saturday. A large turnout of voters was observed at the polling unit. However, several prospective voters complained that their names were missing from the register pasted on the wall for verification. According to findings at the polling unit, names beginning with the letters C, E, H, and I were not visible on the displayed register. A check by our correspondent also confirmed that names under those alphabetical categories could not be found on the list. In a statement issued on Tuesday through its official communication channels, the Commission made it clear that it has not released any timetable or schedule of activities for the 2027 polls. INEC stressed that the information in circulation is “not authentic and should be disregarded in its entirety,” noting that no official dates have been fixed for the election, party primaries, or campaign periods. “Any document or report claiming otherwise is fabricated.
