State Government Suspends School Activities Indefinitely Over Diphtheria Outbreak The Plateau State Government has ordered the temporary closure of all public and private primary and secondary schools across the state as a precautionary measure against the spread of suspected diphtheria cases. The directive took effect on Monday, September 7, 2026, and will remain in force until further notice. The government said the decision followed reports of suspected diphtheria cases in Jos North, Wase, Jos South and Bassa Local Government Areas. Schools that had already resumed academic activities were also directed to shut down.
