OYO GOVT PAYS ₦1.65 BILLION GRATUITIES TO 454 RETIRED TEACHERS, LG STAFF
A total of 454 retirees and next of kin to deceased retirees across the 33 local government areas of Oyo State have benefited from the latest round of monthly payments of gratuities and death benefits to retired primary school teachers and local government staff.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the Chairman of the Local Government Staff Pension Board, Hon. Akeem Ige, disclosed that Governor Seyi Makinde approved the sum of ₦1.65 billion for the payment exercise covering the months of March, April and May 2025, benefiting a total of 454 individuals.
He further noted that the governor has increased the monthly allocation for gratuity payments twice within a year, from ₦250 million to ₦500 million, and now to ₦1 billion in a bid to fast track the clearance of outstanding payments and expand the number of beneficiaries.
The Permanent Secretary of the Local Government Staff Pension Board, Alhaji Lukman Muraina, revealed that the government would soon pay an additional ₦500 million in outstanding arrears and advised the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds received for their personal and family needs.
The Chairman of the State Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Akinwale Akinwole, applauded Governor Makinde for changing the narrative of retirees in the state, adding that the administration’s commitment has restored dignity to life after service.
