JUST IN: President Tinubu Sacks General Musa, Appoints Oluyede as New Chief of Defence Staff in Major Service Chiefs Shake-Up

In a sweeping change at the top of Nigeria’s military leadership, President Bola Tinubu has reportedly sacked Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Christopher Gwabin Musa and appointed Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede as his replacement.

According to a statement released by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the change takes immediate effect. Alongside the CDS change, Tinubu also made other shifts in the service chief positions Major General W. Shaibu will serve as the new Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas is named Chief of Naval Staff.

Outgoing CDS Musa has held the post since June 2023. The presidency expressed “profound appreciation” for his service and charged the newly appointed chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them by enhancing professionalism, vigilance, and unity within the armed forces.

Oluyede is already serving as Chief of Army Staff, having assumed that role in late 2024. His elevation to CDS signals rapid upward mobility in Nigeria’s military hierarchy.
