FLASH: 38 Worshippers abducted from Kwara church regain freedom
Thirty-eight worshippers who were abducted on Tuesday during a service at Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Isegun, Eruku, Kwara State, have been freed.
Elder Michael Agbabiaka, the church secretary authorised to speak with them, confirmed this to Top Tori on Sunday.
“The DSS called me this afternoon. They confirmed that our people are with them,” Agbabiaka said.
President Bola Tinubu also confirmed this development in a statement on Sunday.
A live stream of the mid-week service showed terrorists storming the church on Tuesday evening and firing multiple shots. Footage captured worshippers, both young and old, screaming and scrambling for safety as gunshots rang out.
An elderly woman, her back bent and unable to walk quickly, let alone run, was seen struggling to find a place to hide during the attack.
Two of the assailants were also captured ransacking the bags of worshippers, while others pursued the fleeing congregants.
While three people died in the attack, one sustained an injury, and 38 were kidnapped.
TOP TORI gathered that the kidnappers had initially demanded N100 million ransom for each abducted person, but they later reduced it to N20 million. They would, however, cut off communication on Friday.
