Alaafin to Install Seyi Tinubu as Okanlomo of Yorubaland on December 21

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem is set to install son of Nigeria’s president Oluwaseyi Tinubu as the Okanlomo of Yoruba land.

The installation will take place on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at the Palace of the Alaafin in Oyo town.

Information obtained by our correspondent also revealed that Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari will be conferred with the prestigious title of Obaloyin of Yorubaland during the same ceremony.
The event is expected to attract an array of traditional rulers, political leaders, cultural stakeholders and dignitaries from across Yorubaland and beyond, in view of the stature of the honourees and the cultural significance of the titles.
The installation, according to palace sources, underscores the Alaafin’s commitment to recognising individuals who have contributed meaningfully to societal development and the promotion of Yoruba culture, values and unity.

Top Tori recalls that the CEO of Ilaji Hotel and Sports Resorts, Engr. Jubril Dotun Sanusi, was recently conferred with the title “Okanlomo Oodua” by the Ooni. This latest development, coming from the Alaafin of Oyo, has further stirred conversations across Yorubaland.

What does the conferment of the Okanlomo title by two foremost traditional institutions mean for Yoruba tradition, culture, and modern leadership? Drop your opinion in the comments section.
