Oyo Police Rescue Two Abducted Children, Arrest Four Suspects

The Oyo State Police Command has reportedly rescued two children abducted by suspected kidnappers in Ebinpejo Village, via Lanlate, Ibarapa East Local Government Area, and arrested four suspects allegedly involved in the operation.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, on Monday, the Police said the children were abducted after armed men invaded the village on Friday, June 27, where they reportedly ransacked houses, assaulted residents and whisked the victims away.

The Command said the joint security team traced the suspects’ hideout in a forest, where a gun battle ensued after the kidnappers allegedly opened fire on the operatives.

According to the statement, one suspect, Umaru Usman, 25, who sustained gunshot injuries while attempting to escape, was arrested.

The Police said a follow-up operation carried out in the early hours of Saturday led to the arrest of another suspect, Abdullahi Ahmed, 28, who was also found with gunshot injuries believed to have been sustained during the exchange of gunfire.

“Further investigations led to the arrest of Sunday Idowu (30), identified as a local collaborator who allegedly provided logistical support to the criminal syndicate. Operatives also arrested Muhammed Ibrahim Shina (29), who reportedly travelled from Ilorin, Kwara State, to participate in the abduction operation,” the Police stated.

According to the Command, “The four suspects are currently assisting investigators with useful information aimed at identifying and apprehending other members of the criminal network.”

The Command said investigations are ongoing and assured residents that further updates would be provided as they unfold.
