Fresh details have emerged over the defection of former Deputy National Chairman (South) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, to the All Progressives Congress (APC), as Hon. Oduola Olumide, popularly known as Alayàkí Ona-Ara, offered his perspective on the political developments surrounding the move.

Speaking during an exclusive interview, Hon. Oduola, a former PDP candidate for the Oyo State House of Assembly, alleged that unresolved political differences and a breakdown in the relationship between Arapaja and Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, played a significant role in the former PDP national officer’s decision to leave the party.
According to Alayàkí Ona-Ara, Arapaja’s exit did not happen in isolation but was the result of a series of political developments within the PDP. He alleged that Governor Makinde betrayed Arapaja politically, a situation he claimed contributed to growing dissatisfaction and eventually pushed the former Deputy Governor towards the APC.

The former House of Assembly candidate also shared his account of the alleged role of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the political realignment, explaining how national political interests may have influenced the development. He further analysed what Arapaja’s defection could mean for the balance of political forces in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Alayàkí Ona-Ara maintained that the development could have wider implications for the PDP in Oyo State, particularly as political leaders and stakeholders begin to reposition themselves ahead of 2027. He argued that the coming election cycle could witness intense political battles, new alliances and further realignments across the state.
