Our Demand Is Fair Political Representation, Ekunle Community Stakeholders Speak on Iseyin Chairmanship Race Under APM
Stakeholders from the Ekunle Community in Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State have appealed to the leadership of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and other critical stakeholders to uphold the principles of fairness, equity and justice by allowing Ekunle Community to produce the next Chairman of Iseyin Local Government.
The stakeholders, who spoke during a consultative meeting, expressed concern over what they described as political imbalance in the distribution of key offices and appointments in Iseyin, noting that Ekunle Community, despite having the majority voting strength and consistently supporting the party, has continued to experience marginalization in political representation.
According to them, Ekunle Community has remained a strong pillar of the party through its large voting population, grassroots mobilisation and commitment to party activities. However, they alleged that major political positions have largely been concentrated in Isalu Community, creating concerns over fairness and equal opportunity.
The stakeholders listed some of the offices currently occupied by indigenes of Isalu Community to include the Senior Special Assistant on Political Matters, a full-time member of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), a member of the Oyo State Civil Service Commission, a full-time member of the Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency (OYSROMA), the immediate past Executive Chairman, the current Executive Chairman, and the party's current candidate for the Oyo State House of Assembly election in 2027 while Koso community presented Hon. Shina Peller as the Oyo North Senatorial Candidate APM leaving Ekunle community with nothing.
They recalled that during Governor Seyi Makinde's first tenure (Omituntun 1.0), an indigene of Isalu Community served as Caretaker Chairman before later emerging as the party's candidate and winning the local government election. They added that in Omituntun 2.0, Hon. Fasasi Rasaq Bisi, also from Isalu Community, became the party's chairmanship candidate and subsequently emerged as Executive Chairman.
Speaking on behalf of the stakeholders, Prince Ademola Adegoke stressed that their demand was not against any individual or community but a call for balanced representation and inclusiveness. He said, "This is not a fight against any individual or community. Our demand is simply for justice, fairness and equal political representation. Every community deserves a sense of belonging."
The stakeholders warned that allowing another consecutive term for the incumbent chairman could further widen the perceived political gap between Isalu and Ekunle communities, with possible effects on party unity and electoral fortunes ahead of the 2027 general elections.

They therefore appealed to the APM leadership, traditional rulers, party elders and other stakeholders to consider their demand and allow Ekunle Community to produce the next Chairman of Iseyin Local Government in the spirit of fairness, equity and justice, noting that such a decision would promote peace, unity and sustainable political development.
